Supporting Growth at Younium: Stories from Our Team — Part III
Our Youniverse consists of a team of curious minds, always eager to expand our horizons and grow — and our culture reflects that. We believe in giving every individual the resources and environment they need to take on new challenges and develop.
We spoke with four colleagues who have grown into new roles over the past months to learn what role Younium’s culture of support and trust have played in their growth.
MARIA: FROM CUSTOMER SUCCESS MANAGER TO CLIENT EXPERIENCE & OPERATIONS MANAGER
Maria joined Younium seven years ago as employee number 10. Since then, Younium has grown from a small start-up into an international scale-up and Maria’s role has evolved right alongside it.
She started as Customer Success Manager at Younium. As the company grew, she took on the role of CS Team Manager, later moved into Retention Management, and today works as Client Experience & Operations Manager, focusing on long-term value across the entire customer journey, for both our customers and Younium.
Q: You’ve held several different roles over the years, how have you experienced that development?
It really has been a ride — a fun one. When I joined, I was recruited by Erik Forsgren, our Customer Success Manager at the time, who shortly after went on parental leave. That suddenly left me as the only person in Customer Success. It was a big responsibility, but I felt ready for it and quickly grew into the role. As we started hiring more people, we divided roles into Customer Success, Support and Professional Services. I helped build the CS team and naturally moved into a CS Team Manager role. Today, my work is about how we as a CS Team can support a fast growing customer base while finding smarter, more scalable ways of working. By utilizing software, automation, and AI, we can enhance how we deliver value and drive growth.
Q: Which skills have you been able to refine during your journey at Younium?
One key development has for sure been strengthening my long-term and strategic perspective. Working closely with fast-growing SaaS customers and people in strategic roles taught me how they think about growth, priorities, and value creation. That experience helped me better understand what our customers truly need, not just today, but over time.
On top of that, I’ve developed my ability to identify the right KPIs and take a data-driven approach in a people-focused field like Customer Success. It’s about moving beyond gut feeling and grounding decisions in real data and direct customer input.
Q: Where there challenges along the way and what did they teach you?
The overall pace of growth has definitely been challenging. Going from a small start-up to an international scale-up brings constant questions: What should we prioritize? How can we support new markets? Which roles do we hire first? So one of the biggest lessons for me has been learning when to step back and look at the bigger picture. In a fast-moving environment, it’s easy to lose focus. Being able to reassess priorities and define what really matters is crucial.
Q: How has Younium supported your professional growth?
From early on, I was trusted to take ownership and make decisions, while having support when I needed it. This culture of trust is something really present at Younium. Here, people really are encouraged to bring ideas, try new ways of working, and innovate. It’s not about everyone doing whatever they want, but if you have a good idea to improve something or build something new, you’re trusted to create something meaningful.
ANDRZEJ: FROM QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST TO APPLICATION DOMAIN EXPERT
Andrzej joined Younium as a Quality Assurance Specialist, his first role after completing his developer training. With a naturally curious mindset and tendency to deep-dive into complex areas of the product, he quickly grew into a vital part of the development team. Over time, his expanding knowledge and hands-on contributions led him deeper into the product architecture itself. Today, he works as an Application Domain Expert, focusing on the core logic and inner structure of our solution.
Q: How did you first learn about Younium, and what made you decide to join the company?
Andrzej: My life is a little bit like a Quentin Tarantino film; driven by coincidence, a bit rough around the edges, humorous, and always moving forward. That’s pretty much how I found Younium as well. We matched by chance at a job fair. I was actually looking for a more junior role, as I had just finished my training, while Younium was hiring for something more senior. But they told me they were looking for someone to grow with the company, to build knowledge together over time, and that they were willing to trust and invest in me. Looking back, I believe I’ve been able to meet Younium’s needs while learning and evolving a lot along the way.
Q: How has your role changed over time, and what have you learned from that development?
Andrzej: I grew a lot in my first role, mainly driven by curiosity. The biggest change wasn’t so much my title, but the scope of what I was doing. For a while, I was a Senior Quality Assurance Specialist, but my work soon extended beyond testing. I was rewriting parts of the code, fixing issues directly in the application, and spending a lot of time improving and rebuilding our invoicing flow.
Balancing my formal responsibilities with the additional work I naturally grew into wasn’t always easy. But eventually, it led me into a role that fully aligns with what I’m best at and most interested in. I’m very proud of having proven myself and grown into this position.
Q: How has Younium supported your professional goals and growth and helped you take on new challenges?
Andrzej: Younium has played a huge role in developing my coding skills. I joined Younium with a solid foundation in coding and logic as my strong side. Here, I learned about system architecture and proper design, how to build solutions in a scalable way, and how to assure security from multiple angles.
The culture here is very open in terms of knowledge sharing. There’s no sense of “this is my area, don’t touch it.” People genuinely help each other and both providing guidance as well as asking for support is encouraged. That really have my professional growth a push.
On top of that, the possibility of working remotely has helped a lot. It allows me to work the way I perform best, with periods of hyper-focus and deep-diving into complex issues.
Q: Were there any projects or milestones that had a big impact on your growth?
Andrzej: One project I’m really proud of is refactoring and modernizing our entire invoicing flow. That was a huge initiative that involved not just coding, but also cross-functional discussions and tight collaboration. Seeing it all come together was a big milestone for me.
PAULA: FROM LEAD IMPLEMENTATION MANAGER TO SENIOR SOLUTION SPECIALIST.
Paula’s journey at Younium is another great example of how roles can grow alongside the company, guided by personal curiosity and motivation.
When Paula Tran joined Younium in 2024, she was responsible for all US customer implementations, involved in every step of the customer journey, from technical setup to training and ongoing support. Today, as a Senior Solution Specialist, her role has become more specialized around her interest in technology and data. She now focuses primarily on the technical side of implementations, integrations, and data flows, while still drawing on her broad end-to-end project knowledge.
Q: How did you first learn about Younium, and what made you decide to join the company?
Paula: What drew me to Younium initially is that already in my first interview, I really got the feeling that this is a company that genuinely cares about its people and wants to support them in their journey. It didn’t feel like I was being hired just to fill a role, but rather that Younium was looking for someone to grow with the company, and so far, that has truly been the case.
Q: Which skills have you been able to further develop and refine during your time at Younium?
Paula: I’ve been able to really deepen my technical skill set during my time at Younium. Before joining, I had worked in roles like project manager and solutions engineer, and I’ve always leaned toward the technical side of things. But it’s been during my time at Younium that I’ve been able to take those skills to the next level.
This has been possible thanks to the open learning culture and strong focus on innovation at Younium. Here, we really embrace innovation and actively try to keep up with technological developments, which means our platform is constantly evolving and there’s always something new and interesting to learn.
Q: How has Younium supported your professional growth and helped you take on new challenges?
Paula: For me, the biggest factor has been the openness to growth and the trust that comes with it. At Younium, curiosity and skill development are genuinely encouraged. If you’re interested in something, no one is going to say “no.” Instead, people are supportive and will give you the access, tools, and opportunities you need to keep learning in that area. You’re trusted to take responsibility for your work and deliver on it, while also being given the space to explore your curiosity and develop new skills.
I’ve worked at companies with a lot of bureaucracy and hesitation around innovative ideas. At Younium, that’s different. If you come up with a new way of doing things, people are going to be open to it and happy to see improvements.
That level of trust has allowed me to grow, deepen my technical skills, and really take the next step in my career.
So I would say if you’re a self-starter, Younium is your place!
MAILDA: FROM BUSINESS ANALYST TO PRODUCT MANAGER
Matilda was already featured in an earlier blog post about career growth, but she just keeps growing, so it’s time for an update on her journey.
After joining Younium in 2021 as a Customer Support Specialist, Matilda moved into a Business Analyst role, but she didn’t stop there. Today, she is a valued Product Manager, with a strong focus on improving Younium’s existing in-app functionality. She works closely with customer feedback and insights, turning user needs into continuous improvements within the product.
Q: What do you think helped you grow into your new role?
Matilda: I think it comes down to a strong drive to keep improving—myself, the way we work together as a team, and ultimately the experience we deliver to our customers. Working closely with customers early on, combined with my genuine curiosity, gave me a deep understanding of the product. From there, approaching challenges with the belief that it’s through trying we learn, really helped me develop both the product and my skills along the way.
Q: You were also part of Younium’s mentorship program, what role did that play in your growth?
Matilda: The mentorship program gave me valuable guidance and perspective when stepping into a new role. Having the opportunity to discuss challenges with an experienced Product Manager helped me understand where to start, how to move forward, and how to approach certain situations. Just as importantly, it gave me reassurance that many of the questions and uncertainties you face when entering a new role are completely normal and that I was not alone in them.
Q: How would you describe the support and growth culture at Younium?
Matilda: At Younium, I feel encouraged to take responsibility and show initiative, while still having support when I need it. I’m trusted to explore solutions on my own, but I always have colleagues and a manager who listen and help guide me when I get stuck. I would describe it as a balance of freedom with structure, where it’s okay to try, learn, and sometimes get things wrong. As long as you’re genuinely trying and working toward improvement, you’re supported in growing both professionally and personally.
Q: What’s something about your role today that “past you” would be most surprised by?
Matilda: Five years ago, before joining Younium, I was eager for new challenges and a change in my career, but I could never have imagined that I would be working with Younium’s product the way I do today. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity I was given to start here, and for the journey since then. With hard work, supportive colleagues, and a shared ambition to succeed together, you move forward step by step. I’m very proud of myself but also of my colleagues. I have them to thank for the trust, collaboration, and many good days that have shaped my journey so far.
