This is Dan: born and raised in Dublin, where he's lived nearly his whole life, aside from one memorable year spent traveling through Spain and Portugal with his partner, chasing good weather from Seville to the Canary Islands to Lisbon and the Algarve. 🇪🇸🇵🇹

Dan studied psychology, but built his career in customer success, working across recruitment, marketing, and sales technology before finding his way into billing and subscription management. 🎉

When he's not working, Dan is usually catching up with friends over a barbecue, a dinner party, or a few drinks, many of whom he's known since childhood, growing up in the very Dublin neighborhood he lives in again today. In fact, he just returned from a trip to Malaga with his twin sister and a group of lifelong friends. 👯‍♂️✈️

Dan, why did you choose to work at Younium?

I’d been working at a competitor for a couple of years when Jacqueline reached out to me and told me about Younium. I was happy where I was before, so it wasn't a push away it was more that I got pulled towards Younium. Before my first conversation with Jacqueline I looked up G2 Crowd for end-user reviews and Glassdoor for employee reviews, and both were overwhelmingly positive. That, plus meeting other employees like Joel, Iida, and Eric during the process and hearing great things from everyone, made the decision easy.

I also liked the idea of working somewhere smaller, where you actually get to know people. I work remotely and I'm the only person in Dublin. I don't even have an office to go to if I wanted but I never feel disconnected. It honestly feels like my colleagues are in the room with me.

What is a skill you have developed here that you're especially proud of?

In the two years I've been at Younium, we've really started seeing the commercial implementation of AI fundamentally change how we do things, and it's been exciting to be part of that both in terms of what we build into the product and how we work internally. A huge focus for us has been data migration, which is genuinely the biggest bottleneck in onboarding new customers. We've started using AI to help transform messy, raw customer data into something we can easily import, which used to take an enormous amount of manual work. So seeing how the commercial adoption of AI helps improve processes, both internally and for our customers, has been a big one for me.

Do you have a secret talent?

Hm, that’s a tricky one. I might be too modest to call anything I do a "talent," but one thing I'm shockingly good at is learning the lyrics to almost any song after hearing it once. You'd think that would make me good at karaoke, but the skill I'm probably lacking is the ability to sing. I know the lyrics, but you probably don't want to hear me sing them. 😅

Is there a show, book or podcast you can recommend?

I don't really watch much TV, movies especially. Any time I say that I feel like it sounds a bit snobbish but that's not at all what I mean. I just think movies have become so formulaic, and I don't have the patience for a three-hour film I can predict the ending of anyway.

A book I’ve recently finished and can highly recommend is called Poor by Katriona O’Sullivan, who was actually one of my lecturers in college. The book is essentially a memoir of her life, touching on topics like socioeconomic disadvantages, and ultimately showing how she overcame those challenges to become Dr. Katriona O'Sullivan. She has also just released a second book, Hungry, which is next on my list.

If you had to switch jobs with someone at Younium for a day, who would it be?

Probably someone in software development or product. I'm fascinated by how much AI has changed the way developers work. That doesn't mean the role of a software developer is going anywhere, but how they work has definitely shifted. I'd love to see what those changes entail for the day-to-day work of someone like a software developer.
